5.1 Smith Machine Operation

• Adjust Bar Height: Position the Smith machine bar to the desired starting height by rotating it to disengage the hooks from the uprights, moving it up or down, and then rotating it back to engage the hooks.
• Set Safety Catches: Always set the adjustable safety catches to a height slightly below your lowest intended range of motion for squats or bench presses.
• Loading Weights: Load standard Olympic weight plates onto the bar sleeves. Ensure plates are evenly distributed and secured with collars.
• Engage/Disengage: To begin an exercise, rotate the bar to disengage the hooks. To re-rack, rotate the bar to engage the hooks with the uprights.
